I am a Content Editor, Motion Designer, animator and UX Designer. I enjoy researching, planning and designing engaging user experiences. I love design. I love how life influences design. I love how design influences life. I also really enjoy working with cool people to create really, really amazing things.
Simplicity is golden! Unless, of course, the message is to display the opposite. In the chaos of information and media overload, users need crisp, simple interfaces that are intuitive, uncluttered, and responsive to their needs.
In a slick design, detail matters! Creating polished, integrated designs makes me tick - always bearing in mind the Universal Principles of Design.
Slick animations turn me on. I have been animating over the last 12 years or so, using predominately After Effects, Premiere & Animate (previously Flash, before Apple kicked in).
For web-based animation (non-encapsulated moving graphics), my preference starts with CSS animations for essentials, then Javascript libraries such as velocity.JS, Angular Animate & jQuery.
For Data Visualization projects, I use the Javascript libraries D3 & Highcharts, usually in combination with Angular.JS
Low-fi sketch ups, wireframes, PSD mocks, mock user interactions. Iterative development, interaction animations, demoable prototypes (code, PSDs, user interactions & code).
User & usability research, user profiling, journey maps, taxonomy research,
low-fi sketching.
Paper prototyping & card sorting. I do a mean lunch napkin mock!
Pixel-perfect code realizations. Content strategies. JS frameworks & JS automation tooling (Node). Unix scripting for deployments, git, ssh, rsync & making OSX pur like my pug.
Infographics, titles, promos, web banner ads, light weight website animations, logo animations. Keynotes & animated titles. I use After Effects, Maya, Adobe Animate, Highcharts & D3.
I have worked with a wide range of clients over the years, including BHP Global Architecture, Marc USA, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, First Commonwealth Bank, Priorities USA, Open Arc, Commit2Conquer Cancer, Allegheny Health Network, Apraxia Kids and many others.
My methods focus on better aligning a client's product with customer needs through user research, profiling, in-depth interviews and data gathering. I have managed multiple complex projects and administered, supervised, and monitored online initiatives. I have gathered qualitative and quantitative user data for strategies to improve business growth and maintained/tracked budgets, including out-of-pocket costs.
Provided education to the public on artworks, art history & the history of the famous museum. Ensure the enforcement of museum rules with museum visitors and staff.
Conservation & transportation of works of art.
Assisted with planning and organizing exhibitions and concerts (setup & teardown).
Priorities focused on rethinking user interface design when dealing with big data. Incorporated user research & scenario storyboarding to solve UI problems. Daily rapid prototyping was undertaken (Angular.JS & Bootstrap) to create unique & rich experiences, while maintaining site/app git repos. Regular updates to style guides & code notes.
I developed & implemented build tools for the SDLC using Sass, Gulp & Node/NPM, in efforts to streamline workflows across departments. I researched new ways of implementing infographics into dashboards that were easily accessible on any device & featured purpose-driven animations to help users get key information fast.
I overhauled the student portal (iCampus) to optimize the user experience. All old content was edited, and metadata introduced. I collected data to demonstrate the newly launched site was easy to navigate & fast to use.
I developed design systems and style guides adhering to brand constraints & presented them in team meetings.
I provided all frontend development for Strayer & JWMI sites & developed new landing pages, assets and layouts for A/B testing. Students often use old devices, so I spear-headed IE8 support & responsive design. Strayer's Drupal code base was a zoo, which required some creative thinking to overcome load times and improve UX journey flow.
Sometimes all that is needed is quick Photoshop mockups for a re-brand, then the final PSD gets a pixel-perfect web look. I created 12 different design looks for both desktop & mobile versions of their flagship Club Cafe website.
The approved final version was then converted into pixel-perfect code. Also extracted assets from the final mock to provide web-optimized versions.
I developed UX strategies for a new startup in the education space, which was launched as part of Thrill Mill.
User research was undertaken with design-thinking in mind, targeting students and scholars. Based on collected data, I developed user flows & journey maps. Using mock data based on research conclusions, I carried out frontend development for coded prototypes.
As intern, I created animated banner ads using Flash & Adobe Edge Animate, often daily.
I provided wireframing for a First Commonwealth Bank new mobile app project & designed a host of assets across multiple projects.
Researched technological advancements to add to curriculums. Developed syllabi to align with course objectives and university timetabling.
Gave lectures & taught labs for post-graduate & undergraduate students. Managed & directed final project launches, as well as producing marketing collateral. Topics for coursework ranged from User Interface Design, Rapid Prototyping, Human/computer Interaction, Usability for self-designed software & hardware.
Commissioned Flash site for Future Directions In Biological Science.
Brief was "make science sexy"...
Experimenting with full page animation to draw the eye.
Conference site administration and Listserv maintenance.
Computer lab hardware & software maintenance (both Mac & Windows labs).
Technical support for OSX/Windows, all music and graphics software.
Online library tutorial updates and Listserv maintenance.
Provided direct support to clients using the various computer labs & technology centres.
Provided technical assistance relating to software applications, report software and hardware issues, resolve printer problems, monitor supplies, and maintain lab environments.
Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal communication skills and professionalism, while lab policies and procedures.
The creation of an interactive DVD for Orchestral Instrumentation training, using Adobe Flash (now Animate), XML & Actionscript.
Finding interesting ways to incorporate animation on transitions.
Researching innovative ways for page constistancy throughout entire layout.
Whether it's a slick animation, app, a site, data visualization, or billboard poster, I am always looking for new exciting projects to be a part of.
